FAQ

What ages is it for?

The Make-A-Fort Explorer Kits are for ages 4 and up.  Younger kids will need help building.  Older ones can normally build by themselves.

How big is it?

Each panel is about 2′ x 2′ and each Explorer Kit includes 20 panels.

You could make a 2′ x 2′ tunnel with three panels and repeat this six times to create a tunnel that is about 12′ long with a single Explorer Kit.

Or pick one of our Projects and build a big fort, maze, or tunnel.  A single Explorer Kit allows you to build a fort that requires up to 8′ x 8′ of floor space.

Or buy multiple Explorer Kits to build really big things (most customers buy three Explorer Kits).

Can I reuse it?

Yes, the black connectors simply slide snugly into the panel and brace slots to hold things together.  Simply pull the black connectors out to tear down what you’ve built and store away in the provided carrying case.   Build something new on a different day.

Is it easy to store away?

Yes, each Explorer Kit includes a carrying case that is about 24″ x 24″ x 4.5″ in size.  All the panels, yellow braces, and black connectors fit back in the carrying case.  Store the carrying case under a bed or in a closet when not in use.

What's it made of?

The yellow braces and panels are made from an upgraded cardboard that is much stronger and durable than normal shipping box cardboard.   See How Strong for a comparison of our panels vs normal shipping box cardboard.

The circular black connectors are made from a dense foam.  The connectors fit tightly in the yellow brace and panel slots firmly to hold things together.

Why the yellow braces?

The braces can be used to make corners stronger.  This is particularly useful when building larger roofs to reduce sagging in the roof.

Can the panels be colored?

Yes, the characters on the panels were designed to be colored with crayons, markers, or even paint.  Color the panels to look however you wish. The panels are also reversible and the reverse side is completely blank to color however you wish!

Is it eco-friendly?

Yes, the panels, braces, and carrying case are all made from recycled cardboard and can be recycled again at end of the life of the Explorer Kit.

Where is it made?

All kits ordered in the US and Canada are Made in the U.S.A.

All kits ordered in Europe are Made in Europe.

Is this a family owned company?

Yes, we are a family owned company from Wichita, Kansas, USA.

Can I buy multiple to make bigger things?

Yes, our most popular purchase is three Explorer Kits.  While a single Explorer Kit is fun, multiple Explorer Kits let you build even bigger structures.

Can I build with it outside?

The Explorer Kits were designed to build temporary structures inside.  The Explorer Kit panels are made of cardboard and any rain or wind is problematic; however, customers have built outside on days with no wind nor precipitation.
